AHRQ Contract Awarded to HRET for National Expansion of Project to Reduce Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), pilule has awarded the Health Research & Educational Trust (HRET), store an affiliate of the American Hospital Association, stomach a one-year, $4 million contract to support a nationwide initiative aimed at reducing catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI) in hospitals.

Twelve states currently participate in the comprehensive unit-based safety program designed to decrease CAUTI rates by at least 25%.  The new AHRQ funding awarded to HRET will allow an expansion of the initiative nationally.

To promote the national expansion, state hospital associations and other state-level patient safety leaders will seek to engage participating hospitals to implement the CAUTI reduction protocols.
