Colorado Issues December Health Facility Acquired-Infections 2010 Semi-Annual Bulletin

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has issued its December Semi-Annual Health Facility Acquired Infections Disclosure Bulletin.  The Bulletin, Volume 3, No. 2, December 2010 focuses on central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs) that were acquired in five adult intensive care units (ICU).  It also discusses the significant pathogens causing the infections

According to the bulletin, there are 57 Colorado adult ICUs meeting the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) definition as an ICU.  These units have been reporting CLABSI infection data since 2007.  The data presented in the bulletin was submitted from 44 medical/surgical, six medical, four cardiac, two surgical cardiothoracic, and one surgical ICUs that reported data from August 2007 through July 2010.
