Conference to Engage Healthcare Professionals For Writing The Connecticut HAI Health Improvement Plan

June 13, 2011

The Connecticut Department of Public Health (department) is hosting a series of Healthcare Associated Infection (HAI) Stakeholder Planning Conferences for the purpose of writing the Connecticut HAI Health Improvement Plan.

There will be three conferences held to write the plan, which will be a comprehensive blueprint for action in addressing HAIs. The conferences are funded by the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Healthcare professionals from various healthcare system settings will be involved.

The first conference for the plan has already been held. The second occurs on June 14. The second conference is to prepare involved participants for a final conference before finally adopting the state plan sometime in November 2011.

Dr. Richard Melchreit, the department’s HAI Program Coordinator, will provide opening remarks at the June 14th conference. He will also present a review of the state’s interim plan which was developed in response to the 2009 Department of Human Health and Human Services (HHS) Action Plan to Prevent Healthcare Associated Infections.

The afternoon program of the June 14th conference will include sessions about HAI issues in various healthcare system settings: long-term care, homecare and hospice, hospitals, ambulatory care, dialysis, community health centers and other settings.
