FDA Approves MRSA LightCycler® Advanced Test

July 9, 2010

Roche Molecular Systems, rx Inc. has announced today that the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has approved its new LightCycler® MRSA Advanced Test used to detect Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).

The LightCycler® MRSA Advanced Test is a qualitative in-vitro diagnostic test used to directly detect bacterial MRSA nasal colonization.  It is specifically designed to help prevent and control MRSA infections in healthcare settings. The test delivers rapid results (within 2 hours) using real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR).  Roche also states it offers greater sensitivity compared to direct culture-based methods.
