FDA Investigating Multistate Cyclospora Infection Outbreak

Cyclospora InfectionThe U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has stated it is investigating a multi-state outbreak of Cyclospora infections. The investigation is being conducted along with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and state and local officials.

According to the statement, drugs the CDC and several state health departments have reported infections. As of July 18, 2013, more than 200 cases of Cyclospora infection have been reported in Iowa, Nebraska, Texas, and Wisconsin. Illinois has also reported one case that may have been acquired out of state.

Officials are still investigating the possible sources of the outbreak.
