HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius Releases Statement on ASC Infection Control Study

HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius has issued a press release regarding the recent article in JAMA about infection control in ambulatory surgical centers (ASCs).

Secretary Sebelius notes that the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) contributes to ASC infection reduction efforts by investing in research projects about healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) in ASCs.  In addition, no rx HHS agencies are striving to incorporate infection control into ASC inspections.

The press release indicates that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) plans on inspecting one-third of all ASCs nationwide in the year 2010.
