Hygie Canada Technology Battles Clostridium Difficile Infections

July 11, 2011

Considerable attention has been given lately to the outbreak of Clostridium Difficile infection in Canada recently. HAI Focus reported recently on the C. difficile outbreak notice issued by the Niagara Health System in Ontario, Canada.

Today, Hygie Canada issued a press release discussing the outbreak and the numerous articles that have been written denouncing the death of patients who contracted the bacterium.  Stating that its proprietary technology is used in more than 85% of hospitals in Quebec, and the fact that the infection rate has remained stable there, the press release notes “it is quite conceivable that there is a causal link between the rate of nosocomial infections being stable in Quebec and [Hygie’s] technology.”
