Indiana Healthcare Leadership Conference to Include Coverage of Indiana HAI Initiative

The Indiana Healthcare Leadership Conference, decease hosted by the Indiana State Department of Health, is scheduled to be held on October 27, 2011 in Indianapolis, Indiana.  The theme of the conference is care coordination & transition as it relates to residents of long term care.

The conference will include two presentations relating to healthcare-associated infections (HAIs).  Ellen Winchell Miller, PhD, PT, Executive Director of the Center for Aging and Community at the University of Indianapolis will present on the Indiana Healthcare Associated Infection Initiative as it relates to long term care.  In particular, Dr. Miller will address facility efforts in reducing healthcare associated infections, including catheter associated urinary tract infections and Clostridium difficile infections.

Nimalie Stone, MD, Medical Epidemiologist for Long-term Care in the Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will also discuss the reduction of healthcare associated infections in long term care, and will address antibiotic stewardship and the coordination of infection prevention for residents in transition between different healthcare settings.
