Indiana Issues Proposed Healthcare Associated Infections Reporting Rule

August 11, 2011

The Indiana State Department of Health has issued a proposed rule to require Indiana hospitals to report health care associated infections.

The health care-associated infection (HAI) reporting rule will require hospitals licensed by the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) to report data on five of six HAIs targeted by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Reporting will be accomplished through the CDC’s National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN). Hospitals will be required to enroll in the NHSN and confer rights to ISDH to to access non-identifying information the hospitals have entered on HAIs.

The proposed rule was published in the Indiana Register on July 27, 2011. A public hearing will be held on August 19, 2011.
