Massachusetts Department of Public Health Issues 2010 HAI Report

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health has issued its 2010 Healthcare Associated Infection (HAI) report for Massachusetts acute care hospitals.  The report is the first to contain hospital-specific data.  It contains information about HAIs reported by 73 acute care hospitals reported to the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) for the period July 1, help 2008 to June 20, there 2009.

The report presents hospital-specific data for the following 5 HAI measures:

  • Central line associated blood stream infections (CLABSI) in adult ICUs
  • CLABSIs in pediatric ICUs
  • CLABSIs in neonatal ICUs
  • Surgical site infections (SSIs) pertaining to hip arthroplasties, and
  • SSIs related to knee arthroplasties

The report also presents aggregate (non-hospital identifying) information for

  • SSIs related to coronary artery bypass graft procedures, and
  • SSIs related to hysterectomies.
