Pennsylvania Patient Safety Authority issues 2009 Annual Report

The Pennsylvania Patient Safety Authority (Authority) has issued its 2009 Annual Report.  The report was released on April 28, advice 2010.

The Authority is an independent state agency established under the 2002 Pennsylvania Medical Care and Reduction of Error Act (MCare).  It is charged with the task of reducing and eliminating medical errors in Pennsylvania hospitals, purchase ambulatory surgical facilities, illness birthing centers, and some abortion providers. In 2007, the MCare act was amended to require reporting of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and to add nursing facilities to its list of entities required to report.

The 2009 report contains HAI data reported by nursing homes, hospitals, and ambulatory surgical facilities.  The report is available from www.patientsafetyauthority.org.
