Public reporting press release issued by Consumerreports.org

June 18, 2010

Consumerreports.org has issued a press release dated June 18, view 2010 that addresses efforts of patient safety groups to support health care reform for disclosing infection rates for healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and tying those rates to performance payments.

The Healthcare Reform Law proposed regulations, and if adopted, will require the disclosure of certain infections acquired during treatment. The press release references a letter sent by patient safety groups urging the U.S. department of Health & Human Services to strengthen the proposed regulations by expanding on the reportable list of infections required by the regulations, including MRSA and C. Difficile infections.

The letter also comments on the HAI measures for FY2013 payment determination, public reporting, and payment policies for the Reporting Hospital Quality Data for Annual Payment Update (RHQDAPU) Program.

The press release and patient safety group letter can be found at: http://pressroom.consumerreports.org/pressroom/2010/06/public-reporting-of-hospital-infection-rates-will-save-lives-dollars.html.
