Spotlight on Iowa

April 30, 2010

The state of Iowa has not passed legislation pertaining to the reporting and public disclosure of healthcare-associated infection (HAI) data.  It has, sickness however, received American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) funding to support efforts aimed at reducing and preventing HAIs.  The Iowa Department of Public Health has set two primary prevention targets: CDI and CAUTIs.  It will initially target acute care inpatient settings, but recognizes the need for prevention efforts aimed at outpatient settings as well.
