Virginia Department of Health Offers Infection Prevention Training for Assisted Living Facilities and Nursing Homes

The Virginia Department of Health is offering free infection prevention training for assisted living facilities and nursing homes.

Free regional trainings are sponsored by the Virginia Department of Health & the Virginia Health Care Association, buy APIC-VA and others.

The trainings are designed for assisted living facilities, thumb nursing homes, pharmacy direct care providers, staff responsible for infection prevention activities, and facility administrators.  Attendance is limited to 3 participants per facility.  Participants will be provided with a resource toolkit including slides, fact sheets, templates, and infection prevention guidelines.

Primary topics include the following:

  • Infection prevention in the assisted living facility and nursing home settings;
  • implementation strategies for prevention measures;
  • tracking infections; and
  • outbreak identification, reporting, and management.

Three upcoming trainings are being offered:

June 16, 2011: Assisted living and nursing homes.  Blue Ridge Community College, Weyers Cave.

June 29, 2011: Assisted living.  New River Community College, Dublin.

June 30, 2011:  Nursing homes.  New River Community College, Dublin.
